On Monday, January 19, the PhD student from the Nutrigenomics group, Saioa Gómez Roncal, will defend her doctoral thesis entitled "Combinatorial modulation of hepatic lipid metabolism by photoperiod, sex and seasonal fruit (poly)phenols in obesity".
This work investigates, using a preclinical model of obesity, how day length (photoperiod), sex, and fruit seasonality-which determines the profile of dietary polyphenols-can modulate hepatic lipid metabolism. Although these factors have been previously studied individually, their combined impact under obesogenic conditions had not been fully clarified.
Overall, the thesis highlights the key role of biological and environmental factors in metabolic regulation and suggests that considering them may improve our understanding of metabolic disorders and support the development of more personalized nutritional and therapeutic strategies.
