On March 20 at 11:00 a.m., researcher Daniel Guerra will present his doctoral thesis entitled "Filamentous Ascomycetes from Marine Substrates in the Mediterranean Basin: Diversity, Novel Species, and Biotechnological Potential", marking the completion of his doctoral research (PhD in Fungal Diversity and Phylogenetics).
The thesis focuses on marine filamentous ascomycetes, microscopic fungi associated with a variety of marine substrates such as submerged wood, algae, and sediments. These organisms play an important role in marine ecosystems by contributing to the decomposition of organic matter and nutrient recycling. In addition, some species are of biotechnological interest due to their ability to produce bioactive compounds with potential applications in different fields.
This work provides new insights into the diversity of these fungi in the Mediterranean, including the description of novel species and an assessment of their biotechnological potential.
