Next Friday, November 14, you are invited to the official opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 academic year at the Faculty of Chemistry, which will coincide with the celebration of Saint Albert the Great's Feast Day.
Academic activities will be suspended from 12:00 p.m. for all courses, when the ceremony will begin in classrooms 101 and 102 of the Faculty of Chemistry.
The inaugural lecture, entitled "Protomundos: The Role of Silica in the Origin of Life", will be given by Dr. Juan Manuel García Ruiz, Ikerbasque Professor at the Donostia International Physics Center.
During the ceremony, the following awards will be presented:
· Award to students with the highest entrance grades who began their studies at the Faculty of Chemistry in the 2025-2026 academic year.
· Catalan Chemical Society Award for the best Chemistry and Chemistry in English Final Degree Project (TFG) of the 2024-2025 academic year.
· Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Award for the best Final Degree Project in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as the best from the Double Degree in Biotechnology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for 2024-2025.
· Recognition of recently retired faculty members.
From 1:30 p.m., in the courtyards of the Faculty of Chemistry, several activities will take place:
· Electronic vermouth at student-friendly prices, organized by Chemistry students.
· Lunch (€5) including salad, paella, dessert, and one drink (additional drinks will cost €1). Please register using the QR code on the attached poster before Tuesday, November 11, at 8:00 p.m.
· Scientific bingo
· Chemistry-themed gymkhana
· DOGMA game marathon
Lunch tickets can be purchased and collected on November 11 and 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the entrance of the lecture hall, and also on November 14.Please remember to bring your reusable cup.
